When in the sea, enjoying the surf, one of the most dreaded words you don’t want to hear is ‘Shark’. Sharks attacks are not new to us and we can read stories describing how a shark attacked some surfers or swimmers in the sea. Although there are many suggestions and theories about why sharks sometimes attack people, still it would be better to always be on the safer side while unfortunately dealing with this predator. Some of the attacking shark species, like the Great white shark, may accidentally consider a human for a seal or other prey animal; this would be typical in the case of an attack against a surfer. But the ultimate question is where does shark attacks occur?
Research shows that most of the attacks take place in near shore waters, typically inshore of a sandbar or between sandbars where sharks feed and can become trapped at low tide. Other areas in waters like areas with precipitous drop-offs are also likely attack sites. Sharks flock there as their natural food items also come together in these areas. It is therefore better to keep away from such areas which are prone to shark attack
