Sometimes sharks can adopt the bump and bite attack strategy. It actually appears that the shark is attempting to instil fear in the victim by pushing and turning him around with severe bumps. This usually takes place in deeper waters, targeting swimmers and divers and its occurrence, is rare.
As usual, the shark marks out the victim as a potential prey. It then tests around by bumping him to see if its alive or not before deciding to take a few bites. It will push again before deciding whether to bite or not to bite. This kind of shark attack usually results in severe injuries, which are sometimes fatal. The shark initially begins circling and often bumping the victim prior to the actual attack resulting in greater injuries.
