When in the sea, enjoying the surf, one of the most dreaded words you don’t want to hear is ‘Shark’. Sharks attacks are not new to us and we can read stories describing how a shark attacked some surfers or swimmers in the sea. Although there are many suggestions and theories about why sharks sometimes attack people, still it would be better to always be on the safer side while unfortunately dealing with this predator. Some of the attacking shark species, like the Great white shark, may accidentally consider a human for a seal or other prey animal; this would be typical in the case of an attack against a surfer. For a shark, the shape of a surfer lying on a surf board closely resembles a seal from beneath the surface and this species have sensory organs on their nose to pick up electrical signals, such as those generated by muscles when moving.
In most of the cases the shark that attacks a human will make only one bite and then go away. There are three ways the shark can attack its prey and in this case a human. One of these attacks is the bump & bite attack. In bump & bite attack, which usually takes place in deeper waters, targeting swimmers and divers and its occurrence, is rare. As usual, the shark makes out the victim as a potential prey. The shark then bumps into it to tests if it is alive or not then it may take a few bites before deciding if it will bite again or not. This kind of shark attack is usually results in severe injuries, which are sometimes fatal.
